At Misty Isle Tours we understand that touring as a family with children can be difficult. We have 4 children ourselves, ranging from 2 to 12 years old! When we go on holiday it can be a great challenge to find suitable family-friendly activities. Keeping children entertained is hard work! On our standard Isle of Skye Highlights Tour we do welcome children of all ages. However, we also recognise that for some children this may involve too long a day or too much time spent on the coach.

One Family Experience the Isle of Skye
Here’s one example of the kind of thing we offer. On Thursday we had the pleasure of touring with Natascha and her family of 2 daughters. A teenager and an exceptionally cute baby! Through some emails back and forth we were able to make up a full day’s itinerary. The itinerary suited this active family who travel frequently. It was a delight to be able to show them around a part of the world which they hadn’t previously experienced.
The tour was to start and finish in Inverness. This meant there would be a fair bit of driving involved. Therefore, the rest of the tour was deliberately tailored to include plenty of time in the fresh air. Plenty of time outside was ideal for the family to enjoy Skye’s magical scenery. The Inverness to Skye route has 2 possible roads so we took the south road in the morning. This road takes to the hills overlooking Lochcarron and the surrounding area. We returned fairly late by the south road which passes Eilean Donan Castle, Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness. Unfortunately, by the time we passed Loch Ness it was dark so although Nessie was probably watching our headlights we didn’t see him this time!
Boat Trips & Fairy Pools
On Skye itself we included 2 main features which both girls were able to enjoy equally. First was a boat trip from Elgol across towards Loch Coruisk at the foot of the Cuillin Hills. There were, as always, plenty of seals waiting at the rocks near Loch Coruisk and the added bonus of seeing a wedding party preparing to head out to marry on the banks of the loch.
From there we took the family to the other side of the black Cuillins to the wonderful Fairy Pools, near to Glenbrittle. There was plenty of time to walk down to the pools and I was very impressed how far the family walked! They explored all the pools, which were even more beautiful than normal due to the sun shining brightly all day, and even continued for a while up the hill beyond them!
A big thank you to to Natascha and her family for touring with us, and also for allowing us to use the photo. Here is her review of the day:
“I don’t have enough words to describe our happiness in reaching Skye, it is simply stunning in ways that I will continue to dream about. Stuart’s kindness shines through before you even meet him in his natural warmth and generosity. As a mother traveling with my teen and baby daughters I completley recommend this trustworthy and caring and knowledgeable man! We could not have had a better introduction to this remarkable place, he is simply the best!”
